Chelsea silver

GREEN-fingered experts who specialise in alpines won a silver medal at the Chelsea Flower Show.

Wendy Bates, owner of Rotherview Nursery in Ivyhouse Lane, exhibited a range of flowering plants in troughs and sinks. She said: "We were delighted to receive the award. We've been at Chelsea before, but this year we had more flowers than ever. We had lots of rhodohypoxis, which is a good hardy South African bulb."

Mrs Bates said the display was thanks to the hard work of Chris Brook and her husband Ray. The trio are now preparing for the BBC Gardeners World Live show in Birmingham next week.
