Caravan blaze '“ arson probe

Fire and rescue crews were called to a blaze at a caravan in Abbotsbury in Pagham on yesterday (Tuesday, October 14).

The fire took place at 1.25am and West Sussex Fire and Rescue said the caravan had been severely damaged.

The caravan had been placed about six metres away from nearby bungalows, but one resident had removed the gas canister from it before the fire. The caravan was towed away by Arun District Council on Tuesday.

No one has been arrested but Sussex Police said it is continuing its investigations.

A spokesman from West Sussex Fire and Rescue said: "Checking and removing any gas canisters would be a priority for us to reduce the risk of it exploding.

"It being removed definitely made our job easier and safer. Our job now is to determine whether it was an accident or deliberate."
