Car stranded astide races in

The drama unfolded on Tuesday at 1.30pm when the couple in the car became stuck and waved to raise the alarm.

Steve Tollett, from the lifeboat, said: “The passengers of the vehicle were extremely distressed and shaken.

It was decided that the lifeboat be pushed along to the vehicle in the launching carriage as there was insufficient water for it to get to the vehicle.

“The two occupants were recovered into the lifeboat with a use of a ladder, at this point the passenger became less distressed and the ambulance was cancelled.

“The casualties were safely put ashore on the jetty at the public slipway where they were escorted to the crew room and given a hot drink and a rest while their car was recovered and washed down by the crew.”

Witness Anthony Welwig, from Guestling, was walking his dog at the time of the incident and captured the photo.

He said: “I noticed a car parked on the flooded marsh about eighty yards away. It seemed rather odd for it to be there in the first place, then all of a sudden the horn burst into sound and continued noising off in a sort of frantic fashion.

“I thought at first that the car was full of holiday revellers out for a laugh, then when I saw hands waving from either side of the car from the front, I gathered something was just not right.

“Then the drive wheels of the car spun without gripping and huge sprays of water and mud flew into the air. The people in the car were obviously in distress as the car would not move and the tide was rising.

I don’t know why the couple ventured onto the marsh as there is a sign saying no access . What a rescue! A lifeboat that never touched the water but stayed in its trailer from start to finish.”
