A blue Suzuki hit two bollards outside the tavern in Priory Road shortly after 9pm.

It is believed the car would have gone into the pub if the bollards had not stopped it.

People inside heard a loud bang, while those outside quickly ran indoors.

Landlady Jill Buchner said: “At first I thought someone had gone into the pub. There were people outside as there was a corporate running event happening, and luckily no-one was hurt. The poor driver was very shaken up.”

Police attended the scene along with a fire crew as the car was leaking fluids.
