Call for end to boy-racer misery

Worthing residents living near Splash Point, Worthing, have endured ten years of misery caused by 'boy racers' using their streets as a racetrack.

Determined to stamp out the misery they have already presented a petition to Worthing Borough Council and received commitment to using traffic calming measures to solve the problem.

On Friday, Cllr Mary Freeland, borough councillor for Worthing Central Ward, and residents handed in a petition to the full meeting of West Sussex County Council asking for the county to commit to joint funding of the scheme.

The petition had been signed by more than 100 residents and local businesses who are supporting a parish partnership scheme to find a solution.

Explained action group chairman, Bob Smytherman: "The residents have experienced problems in the area around Splash Point for more than ten years and it is time that the authorities listened to the residents.

"We want the county council to provide funding for the joint scheme."
