Members of Bexhill Sailing Club and Cadets were in attendance when Bexhill Lion President Paul Fleming donated presented the cheque to Cadet Captain Malcolm Brookes. Lion Paul said Bexhill Lions Club were delighted to continue their support of the Sailing Club and the Cadets in particular. “Funding these sails will enable them to learn and develop their sailing skills as well as experiencing the thrill of taking part in races and attending Cadet Camp,” he said.

Bexhill Sailing Club has an active Cadet Section which meets between April and September. There is no minimum age but they are typically around 10 years old as they need to be able to sail from the shingle beach.

Thanking Bexhill Lions for their support Captain Brookes said the new sails will replace ones that are over 30 years old. “Our New Club sails will give Bexhill’s young sailors a real chance to challenge at County and regional level,” he said. “Sails are the ‘engine’ of the boat and an efficient sail gives the sailor the opportunity to translate their skills, training and knowledge into tangible results.

“Our Cadets are looking forwards with excitement to this Olympic year – we know these sails will encourage them to greater things.”
