Coffee: Thank you to everyone who came along the Village hall coffee morning last week. It was a really enjoyable occasion, meeting up with people one hasn’t seen for a while and catching up with their news while enjoying a delicious coffee with scones or cake, all home made. We were delighted to raise about £222 for village hall funds.

Auction: Tonight is the long awaited auction of promises, which is being held in The Bear from 7.30pm. There are so many wonderful lots to bid for thanks to the generosity of so many people. Tickets for football and cricket matches, meals at home and out, a cottage that sleeps 12 for four nights, 2 x 2 rounds of Golf at Dale Hill, a professional photograph, Half a lamb, grass track racing, garden voucher, cheeses, trailer of logs, case of beer, an M O T, 4 seats at the congress theatre and many, many more. All the funds raised will go towards The Queen’s 90th birthday celebrations which will take place on 11th June in our three villages. Do go along tonight and see what bargains there are to bid for.

Quiz: Tonight is also quiz night at the Pavilion in Burwash Common. Teams of six are invited to go along and join in the fun. Entry is £2 and all money is returned as prizes. The licenced bar will be open and Sausage supper can be had. To book a table call Karol on 01435 883813 or just go along.

Jumble - Just a reminder that the jumble sale/table top sale that was booked for tomorrow afternoon in the Swan Meadow Pavilion has been cancelled because of illness. It is hoped that this can be re-arranged later.

Coffee Morning: The Burwash Common After 8’s Club invite you to a special coffee morning tomorrow in the Burwash Common Pavilion to help raise funds for both MacMillan Nurses and Admiral Nurses. Entry is £2 from 10.30pm to 12 noon and includes unlimited tea/coffee. Stalls will include tombola, raffle, bric abrac and cakes. Everyone is welcome to go along. Disco: Tomorrow evening there is to be a children’s disco in the Burwash village hall. 3 to 7 year olds are welcome from 5.30pm to 6.30pm. 7 to 11 year olds from 6.45pm to 8pm. Tickets are from Amy Simpson or in the school playground before and after school. It is being organised by St Bartholomew’s church.

Flower Club: The Burwash Flower club with be holding a workshop on Wednesday in the Burwash village hall from 10am to 12 noon. The workshop is Easter On A Tray, and will be led by Mrs Stevens. The cost is £10 per person and includes oasis and a tray. The workshops are great fun and anyone can join in. Call Maureen Jenner on 01435 882045 if you would like to attend.

After 8’ club: This lively group of ladies are to experience a cheese tasting for their meeting this Wednesday. They will meet at Stonegate Cheese Dairy at 7.45pm for a prompt start at 8pm. It will cost £2 per person which includes the cheese tasting. Coffee and cheese biscuits will be supplied by members Anne & Chris. There will be cheeses to buy and the group hope to make it a successful evening as Cliff is not charging for his time and only asking for a donation to his chosen charity, which the group are happy to give. The meeting is open to guests as well as members.

NSY: The Burwash Not so Young club will meet on Thursday at the Burwash village hall from 2.15pm. The members and guests will be entertained by Mrs Kinnison-Bourkewho will talk about the Oxford canal. There will be a delicious tea and cakes to end the afternoon.

Dates: Next Saturday the Spring Churchyard clean up will take place. Volunteers are invited to go along armed with tools to help. Also on Saturday the Burwash Common and Weald Residence Association will be holding one of their popular race nights in the Pavilion at Burwash Common. ore details next Friday.

Bowls: The team have played three matches since my last report. The first was at home to Hailsham Quintins with Wayne reed, Angela Marden & Gavin Wood won 17-9 but Joan Howard, Margaret Waterhouse & Mary Taylor lost 9-14. The pairs Keith Marden & Alec Martin won 38-4 and Alan Green & Keith Wood won 24-5.A home match to Horam Cannons with wins for Wayne, Angela & Gavin 19-9 and a loss for Martin Casey, Mary & Alan Green 10-16. The pairs Cherry Taylor & Alec won 14-10 and Keith Marden & Keith wood lost 9-10. The last match was away to Hailsham Martlets with a win for all four disciplines. Burwash are currently top of the second division with one game in hand over nearest rivals Horam Cannons. The season is drawing to a close with four matches left to play.
