Bognor Regis man threatened to slit his throat in mum's home

A Bognor Regis man threatened to cut his throat after forcing his way into his mum's house and headbutting her partner.

Jason Wood of Nyewood Lane had forced his way into his mother's home after an argument with his girlfriend.

After putting the razor to his throat, he was taken to hospital by police and was arrested after using threatening and abusive words.

Wood's mother, who has not been named, had a panic alarm fitted in her house because she now fears for her own safety.

In a statement read out at Chichester Magistrates' Court, Wood's mother said: "I felt like a nervous wreck. I had put him on medication because of the way he is. I fear what he may do because of his temper and fits of rage.

"I am worried he might kill someone or himself because of his mental state of mind."

The court heard Wood, 39, has mental health issues and is a heroin addict.

On May 17 he had an argument with his girlfriend and asked his mother to pick him up.

He then forced his way into his mother's Bognor home, despite protests from her and her partner not to do so.

Wood argued with his stepfather and 'flew at him'. The court heard he then headbutted him.

After the confrontation Wood went to the bathroom, took a razor and went to his old bedroom.

Police were called to the property and when they arrived Wood put a razor to his throat. Officers also noticed his arm was bleeding.

He was taken to hospital and started shouting and swearing at police officers because he had to wait before having a cigarette.

He was arrested and taken to Chichester police station.

He 'violently banged' his head against the police van and had to be restrained by police officers.

Wood has 70 previous convictions including two actual bodily harm offences in September 2007.
