Bognor councillor's calendar to brighten up carers' lives

A KINDHEARTED woman has decided to brighten up a group of young carers' lives by raising money for them with a pink calendar.

North Bersted councillor Sylvia Olliver put together 2,000 old postcards with new photos to make the calendar, which was printed over the weekend. All of the profits made from the calendar will go towards the Young Carers in West Sussex.

"At my age, I can't run for charities. I used to be a carer myself and I wanted to raise money so all the young carers could get together and have a good time," said Cllr Olliver.

"Carers are starting to get a bit more recognition now. We are hoping to sell calendars outside the area to raise more money."

The calendar is entitled Bognor and Surrounding Areas, Then and Now.

Last year, Cllr Olliver raised 450 for charity after making a similar calendar.

This year, buyers of the calendar will get the chance to be entered into a prize draw on December 22.

An old picture of a location will be shown and participants will have to send in their answers of its whereabouts for the chance to win. The prize draw winner will receive a bottle of champagne and a large calendar.

The bright pink calendars are available at Dragonfly Design and Print at Queensway and at another one of its branches at The Arcade. A regular size calendar costs 5.99 and a large one 11.99.
