Boats, planes, trains, and more take stage at Modelworld 2015

Modelworld, the hugely-popular model exhibition, returns to the Brighton Centre today (Friday).

In addition to the usual collection of boats, planes and trains of all shapes and sizes, this year's three-day event will also feature Daleks, Lego models, a boating pool, dolls' houses, circuses, and fairground displays - as well as a range of trucks and tanks.

Also, Neil Gough, the Sussex steam engineer, will bring Gigantic, his faithfully-restored traction engine, in tribute to the people who died in the First World War. Throughout the exhibition, the engine will do what it was built for: hauling the huge Howitzer Field Gun and the crew's living van through the streets of the city every day.

Another steam attraction will be the biggest-ever display of five of the fifth-full-size railway locomotives that are usually hidden away at the strictly-private Ingfield Light Railway, near Horsham, a line that is managed by Chris Knibbs, manager of the Bluebell Railway Manager, in the grounds of Ingfield Manor School.

Chris English, Modelworld's joint exhibition manager, said: 'The 2015 show is set to be one of the best modelling exhibitions in the city to date and we really want to prove to families that there is something for everyone no matter their age.

"We are obviously delighted that we have been going strong for 37 years and, most importantly, that the modelling industry is still alive and gaining popularity every year. We look forward to welcoming both new and old faces to the exhibition and I hope all of our visitors enjoy the vast array of exhibits that we have on display.'
