Bexhill RAFA Wings Fair

THE Wings Fair organised by RAFA had its wings clipped initially on Saturday.

Just as the doors opened, a grey morning turned to drizzle and stalls set up outside in Marina Arcade had hastily to be brought into the Albatross Club.

But inside, the annual event in aid of Wings Appeal had its usual faithful following.

There was a queue at the door and in down in the Ops Room operations were at "maximum effort."

To get to the tombola, the raffle, the jigsaws, the hand-crafted cards, the home-made cakes, the jewellery, the WAAF/WRAF basket raffle, the bric-a-brac and especially the books, CDs and videos required accurate navigation and a certain degree of collision-avoidance.

The branch hopes to have raised its Wings Appeal fund-raising for 2008 by 536 as a result of the fair.

Crews will next be at readiness on Saturday, September 6 when RAFA hopes to repeat the success of what last year proved to be a major fund-raising success.

Town Mayor Cllr Patrick Douart and his wife and Mayoress Maureen together with town MP Gregory Barker top the guest list for a Wings Tea.

Last year's innovation proved such a popular means of boosting Wings Appeal that planning for the 2008 event began almost immediately.
