Bersted residents make their voices heard

A PETITION has been launched to allow residents to protest against the new Tesco Express in North Bersted.

Resident Janet Bradfield has joined with the area’s existing shops to enable people to express their anger about the national retailer’s arrival.

Tesco expects to open in May at the former Rising Sun pub on Chichester Road among three similar stores in the same road.

But Mrs Bradfield, 60, of Winston Crescent, said: “I feel very strongly we’ve got too many Tesco stores already.

“They are taking over the place. If this carries on, we will not have any choice where we are able to do our shopping.

“I hope that, if people feel as strongly as I do, they will sign the petition. I will send it to Tesco to let the company know our view. They must be sent a strong message.”

Shop owners Dean Chudasama, of Homefare Convenience Store, and Shop Around The Clock’s Sonny Athwal, are among those who have agreed to stock the petition to show their opposition to the new Tesco.
