Beeding in Bloom calls for younger volunteers

CUBS did a blooming good job planting containers in Upper Beeding, as part of Scout Community Week.

The children, aged eight to ten, helped Beeding in Bloom put in flowers at St Peter’s Green last Tuesday.

Scout leader Stuart Stevens, known as Skip at 1st Beeding and Bramber Scout Group, helped out and the boys and girls soon had the job done.

Beeding in Bloom committee member Pat Nightingale thanked the Cubs for their efforts.

The group hopes more younger people will get involved in volunteering.

Mrs Nightingale said Beeding in Bloom, which organises working parties of volunteers to look after various flower beds and planters around the village, was badly in need of more help.

“The members are getting older and for several years, they have been unable to enter the South East in Bloom contest for lack of sufficient people to bring the village planting and maintenance to the required standard for this competition,” she added. “If anyone wishes to join us, please leave a message for us at Beeding Newsagents.”

The next Beeding in Bloom event will be a plant stall at the Friends of Upper Beeding School fête on June 21.
