Beavers rise to the County Challenge

Beavers from the Bognor District have taken part in the County Beaver Challenge held at Poynings

The ten 1st Felpham Beavers represented the Bognor District with leaders and parent helpers at the event on October 11. They went by minibus to the Parkside Scout Campsite where the competition was held.

The Beavers were set a number of challenges, including building catapults and shooting ammunition accurately into a container, and cooking marshmallows, chocolate bananas, campfire bread and meatballs on kebab sticks.

They also were challenged in their fire-lighting skills, and had to take part in an assault course while blindfolded and led by a partner.

While there, the Bognor Beavers met other beavers from all over West Sussex and enjoyed a picnic lunch together.

Sue Farrant, assistant district commissioner for the beavers, said: "It was all in all a great day and to finish second place was a great result '“ only one point behind the winners.

"If any boys or girls would like to join the beavers (six to eight years old) or any adults are interested in becoming a leader (CRB checks are required), please contact me on 01243 827405."

nLast Saturday, the Bognor District Beavers held their first district sleepover at Yapton Scout headquarters with a cowboy and Indian theme.

Sixteen beavers from different colonies attended the sleepover where they slept in the hut in large pop-up tents.

The beavers had great fun making wigwams, Indian headdresses, archery and crossbows and a campfire.

They took part in a colouring competition and games including an evening hike to find 'gold'. The evening ended in story-telling '“ western-style.

Their next event is the annual teddy bears' picnic in aid of the Chestnut Tree House children's hospice next month.
