Beauty-spot car park thefts rise

The number of beauty-spot car park thefts in the Chichester area has increased.

Despite police patrols at car parks and lay-bys during the summer months, the number of reported thefts from unattended cars has gone up.

A Chichester Police spokeswoman said: "It is possible that persons responsible are watching people get out of their vehicle and then hide the valuables.

"Please ensure that any valuables are concealed before parking your vehicle. Ensure the vehicle is locked securely and all windows shut.

"If you are only taking the car out to go for a walk, then consider leaving valuables at home and only bring what you are prepared to carry with you on your walk."

As well as valuables that had been left clearly on display in cars, thieves forced into the boot of other cars where valuables had been hidden.

Leaflets are available from Chichester Police Station which can be displayed in cars and stipulate the vehicle has no valuables in it.
