Bargain hunters get "fake £10 note" warning

BARGAIN-hunters had an early start to the January sales in Bexhill when several shops slashed prices pre-Christmas.

Police warned shoppers and traders to be on the look-out for forged 10 notes after "numerous" reports.

Typically, attempts are being made to pass the laser copies in situations where the light is poor.

Sergeant Dave Costigan said: "Counterfeit 10 notes have been circulating in Bexhill and a number have been handed in to police."

Wells shoe shop in Sackville Road offered Christmas Eve shoppers quality discounts on its stock.

Courts furnishings store manager Ted Smith said large queues gathered outside the St Leonard s Road premises for the start of its new year sales on Boxing Day.

Bumper bargains included a three-foot divan set for 19 and a nest of tables for 15. These were snapped up within the first five minutes of the doors opening.

"There was a big queue outside when I arrived," he said, "and there was a steady flow of customers until the later part of the afternoon. Everything is reduced and there are some good bargains."

New Look s two shops in Devonshire Road also reported brisk trade from the fashion-conscious younger element.

Within 40 minutes of the stores opening yesterday trade was brisk, with bargain-hunters keen to benefit from a bumper sales harvest of up to 70 per cent off.

Ravenside retail park was very busy during Boxing Day. By midday there was hardly a car parking place left.
