Arsonists strike at busy GP surgery

HEALTH bosses have slammed the arsonists who set fire to rubbish bins outside a busy doctors' surgery on Wednesday morning.

Flames spread to a wooden window frame and the damage caused is estimated to run into the hundreds because the window needs to be completely replaced.

The Broadwater Road Surgery did not need to be closed.

Catherine Kelly, from the local health trust responsible for ensuring access to GP services, said: "This appears to be a sad example of thoughtless and mindless vandalism which has caused a busy practice a considerable amount of disruption, extra work and inconvenience.

"It would have been very serious if the fire had spread to the rest of the building and could have resulted in the practice staff being without their surgery."

Firefighters from Worthing fire station were called to the scene just before 1am on Wednesday morning.
