More than 600 people were entertained on a lovely sunny day and, with the help of an ever-larger band of volunteers, a total of £2,740 was raised.

Owners Richard Bushby and Sandra Hamiltion said: “The maze, as usual, was the main attraction, with help on hand for lost souls.

“Tea and cakes and ice cream were consumed in even more numbers than in previous years and there were stalls and a huge plant sale all of which were very busy all day.

“The event was raising money for Perennial-Gardeners’ Royal Benevolent Society, a charity for the horticulture industry which is needed more now than ever before with the decline of the industry in this area.”

Over the 13 years it has been opened, the garden, in Street End Lane, has achieved a total over £23,000.
