Alex gets on his bike for charity

A CYCLING enthusiast is preparing to use pedal power to raise funds for charity.

Former Steyning Grammar School student Alex Asigno hopes to raise more than 2,000 for the Foundation for the Study of Infant Deaths (FSID).

Alex, 26, will take part in the 100-mile South Downs Way Randonnee Challenge, in July, across the South Downs Way.

He said: "It is 100 miles off-road, and is also known as the Ultimate Challenge. It has a total vertical climb of 10,000ft.

"It starts at 6am in Winchester and finishes at Eastbourne. It has to be completed within 12 hours."

FSID is the country's leading baby charity aiming to prevent unexpected deaths in infancy and promote infant health.

Alex explained why he chose to support the charity: "My sister Camilla died when I was 16. It is something that is very close to my heart."

Anyone interested in sponsoring Alex can log on to his fund-raising website, www.justgiving.com/alexasigno
