These involved a driving skills test through cones, a general knowledge section and a test to see if drivers knew the area and its routes, called "the knowledge".

Mr Parkin told the Herald: "The main part was the taxi drivers' 'knowledge' test. That is the thing that separates us from all the other taxi drivers, it is so hard. I actually won the test '“ I won a second award. I am very chuffed."

As well as his shield and cash prize, Mr Parkin's taxi will also bear a badge so all his customers will know they are being driven by an award-winner.
