Adur and Worthing council leaders to be quizzed

COUNCIL leaders will be quizzed by their fellow members at a committee meeting.

Adur District Council leader Neil Parkin and Worthing Borough Council leader Paul Yallop will face questions from the joint overview and scrutiny committee tonight (Tuesday, June 12).

A report, to be considered by councillors before the meeting, outlines the leaders’ responsibilities, including overall policy, and electoral services.

The report describes the recent overall election turnout of 22 per cent as “disappointing” and reminds members this year’s annual canvas will take place early due to the police and crime commissioner elections in November.

It also outlines “corporate priorities” for the next three years including a “vision” for Adur and Worthing to “radically challenge traditional ways of providing their services”.

According to the report, this will include more partnership working, more co-operation with the voluntary sector and a “smaller and smarter” local government.

The committee meeting will be held at the Civic Centre, in Ham Road, Shoreham, from 6.30pm.
