On the look out for aliens in wetlands

FAMILIES will find nature's Aliens and Invaders at the WWT Arundel Wetland Centre this half term.

Visitors will have the chance to discover some of the alien wildlife that has made its home in the UK and learn about plants invading habitats.

There will be a chance to follow the hands-on Discovery Trail to discover the aliens and invaders amongst us.

Animals, plants and insects have been entering the UK since traders arrived on our shores,” said Claire Drew, learning manager at the centre. “This event is a fun way to raise awareness of the importance of protecting and maintaining habitat for UK wetland wildlife.”

Earlier this month, the government announced a ban on the sale of five species of invasive, exotic wetland plants, starting in 2014.

Throughout half term, there will be daily activities including the boat safari, running from 11am to 3.30pm every day.

Children can also enjoy scrambling over the two ‘wild’ play areas and there are free crafts in the visitor centre every afternoon.

Families can also watch the daily diving duck feed at 2pm or handfeed wildfowl from around the world with grain from the shop.

The centre, in Mill Road, Arundel, is open from 9.30am to 4.30pm, seven days a week. Call 01903 881530 for more information.
