Fine show from songbird Barbara Dickson

Review: Barbara Dickson, Fairlight Hall. June 17.

Devised by Miss Dickson’s ‘right-hand man’ Russell Field in conjunction with Dr Richard Wray this is to provide not only pictures for corridors and treatment rooms but to give occupational therapy wherever it is needed.

With her backing group of Russell on drums, Nick Holland on keyboards and vocal, Brad Lane bass and guitar, and Barbara herself at times on keyboards or guitar, the scope and variety of her repertoire delighted the audience.

With her brief introduction to each number Barbara’s intimate approach to her audience was rapidly established, increasing as the evening progressed. Memories were stirred with Caravan, January, February, You take My Breath Away and the like, the introduction of new numbers greeted with rapt attention.

Barbara’s latest CD is Seeing is Believing and as the sun was setting we bade au revoir to Barbara and her colleagues with heartfelt thanks for the joyousness of her music.
