Drumming legend set for international jazz festival

Preview: Rye International Jazz Festival, August 23 to 27

Headline acts include Cream drumming legend Ginger Baker, rising British jazz star Anthony Strong and the London based IDMC Gospel Choir.

The festival has a wide embrace with workshops for youngsters, free performances, and a Cuban marching band taking to the streets of the town.

Music styles being presented include jazz, gospel, blues, soul, funk, Cuban and world music.

The festival ethos is to offer the opportunity and platform for up and coming local and regional talent to perform.

Performances will be talking place through the town at many local pubs, wine bars, restaurants and hotels. Ginger Baker will be be playing with his Jazz Confusion outfit on Saturday, August 25.

Other events include a Jazz Breakfast with one of the UK’s greatest bass players Herbie Flowers and Mike Hatchard on Sunday August 26 at the George Hotel; “Afternoon Courtyard Sessions” also take place at the George in Rye. The programming mix also features a range of free street entertainment.
