The vaccine clinic will be running at the hospital six days a week. People eligible for the vaccine would be contacted, the spokesman said, so it was important people did not just turn up.

Jabs will be given to people in priority cohorts, such as hospital staff in high risk groups and people over the age of 80 who are already booked in for any appointment.

Members of the public were more likely to receive the vaccine at a GP surgery or clinic in the community, rather than at the hospital, the spokesman said.

Both St Richard’s Hospital and Worthing Hospital will be administering the Pfizer BioNTech vaccine.

The Government has set the target to vaccinate all over-70s, the most clinically vulnerable and front-line healthcare workers by mid-February. This is around 13 million people.
