Traditional morris dance at Bognor Regis School

The traditional morris dance was among the routines performed by the five- and six-year-olds at Southway Primary School.

The 60 Year 1 pupils, dressed in folk costumes, delighted their parents with their stick and hanky-waving skills.

Learning the dances formed part of a term-long project about natural and man-made waterways.

One of the dancers, Oktavian Giwera, six, said: “I like the dance with the hankies and I’m looking forward to showing my mother my dancing.”

The performance, called the Fabulous Finish, marked the end of the first complete year for the new school.

A display of canal boats made by the children was on show.

Justine Chubb, the assistant head of key stage one, said: “The children visited the Wildlife and Wetlands Trust at Arundel and went on the Chichester Canal where they met Bert and Betty, who told them about life living on the canal.”
