VIDEO: Trek Nepal challenge for husband with Parkinson’s

Rita Murray, aged 70, will be trekking forests and mountains and reaching heights of over 3,000 metres in Nepal which takes place between November 9-19.

“I am taking part in the trek to raise funds for people like my husband Ian who has Parkinson’s,” explained Rita.

“Taking on an overseas trek has been an ambition of mine for a long time and I feel that it’s now or never!

“I am looking forward to the event, but I am aware that at the age of 70 it is going to be a big challenge for me.”

Ian was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2009 at the age of 67 and Rita hopes to raise over £3,000 for Parkinson’s UK by visiting the home of eight of the world’s 10 highest mountain peaks.

The charity is aiming to raise £60,000 from the event.

Rita added: “Parkinson’s UK has been very supportive since Ian was diagnosed, and they do so much to help support people with Parkinson’s and their families.”

Rita has also recently held a Christmas Bazaar where her friends at the local knitting group raised £93.50 on their stall. Her next fundraising event will be in March when she will host a coffee morning.
