Teenage artist Tom taking Arundel by storm

HE could be one of Arundel’s youngest artists to ever host an exhibition in the town.

Ambitious Tom Waller, 13, celebrated with his family and friends as he opened up his first exhibition, at the Red Lion pub, in High Street, Arundel – which has already proved a smash hit with locals, selling three pieces minutes after launching the display.

The teen, who recently won an art scholarship to independent school Seaford College, in Petworth, has impressed residents with his contemporary flair.

And with good reason, too. Tom, who created most of his work when he was just 12, can turn his hand to an array of styles.

From vibrant contemporary pieces and dynamic displays, to more surreal and mature paintings and drawings. The youngster has even dabbled with nude portraits, which are part of his 19-piece display at the pub.

Tom, who lives in Arundel, said his main inspiration for his work was the American surrealist, Jackson Pollock.

“I like being able to lose myself in the art, I guess,” admitted Tom. “I love the creativity it gives me and I can go into my own world.

“I admire Jackson because of his passion and the way he can create art that is really colourful and vibrant.”

The teen’s art is rapidly selling out, much to the amazement of his family and friends.

He has already started his next project, a portrait sketch of Superman, which he hopes to exhibit later this year.
