“It is so important to raise awareness of the support our nurses give to terminally ill people in their own homes. The fundraising is so worthwhile as it will pay for half an hour of care, which to a patient and their family, can make such a difference.”

Elmcroft, a Shaw healthcare home in St Giles Close, will be supporting the national Care Home Open Day tomorrow, with guided tours from 11am, a cake sale and drinks available.

Manager Monica Donald said: “We were really pleased to support Marie Curie and highlight to our residents, their families and visitors about the work they do.

“We have an open door policy here at Elmcroft and welcome members of the local community to come in and have lunch with us.

“You can get a home-cooked meal for £1.50 and just need to phone 01273 466500 to book in on the day you are coming.”
