ALAN Tutt demonstrated how he had made award-winning short films using 'blue screen' and other effects techniques.

The first piece of equipment needed is a blue or green board which ought to be at least three feet by two in size. The larger the screen then the more versatile but subject to the practicality of carrying it around and of preventing it swaying in the breeze.

The idea is that an activity can be filmed with the screen being the sole background to the film. This is then followed by another activity being filmed without the screen.

The second film is then laid on the editing track with the first film laid on another track but in the same time frame. Then, still in the editing track, the colour of the screen can be eliminated in such a way that both films can be seen together one on top of the other to give the desired effect.

The blue or green, as the case may be, can be removed using various methods which Alan demonstrated on a large screen on which he also included the editing track.

Perhaps Alan's end result will create the curiosity in all of us to experiment in the way in which he does and so learn more about editing.

In one of his films his wife, Dawn, appears to paint a picture of a garden with an inviting deck chair and a glass of wine waiting in the sunshine.

Dawn then walks straight to the deckchair giving the impression that she has walked by magic right into the painting. Then she sits down and enjoys the glass of wine.

In another film a storm causes a large box to fall off a high shelf on to the floor. Their daughter, Becky, walks into the room, steps into the box and raises the box from the floor. However, as Becky raises the box from the floor she disappears inside the box and it then falls back to the floor. Club meetings are held on the first and third Wednesday of each month in St Luke's Parish Hall, Stone Cross.
