“We wanted to do it to express our appreciation of the carers and the health workers for doing all that they are doing for those who are ill, but also to thank all the key workers, all those people who are keeping our country going, the huge number of people who are working so hard on our behalf.

“It was important because the cathedral represents the church of the city of Chichester but also the Church of England throughout East and West Sussex. It was a focus for the appreciation that Christian people are feeling.

“And it looked absolutely amazing. We are so indebted to the expertise of the lighting engineers from Chichester Festival Theatre. They were really pleased to do it and it looked fantastic. People could see it for miles. I am sure it has never been done before. It looked fantastic – and so different. As a one-off, it was very impactful.”

Chichester Cathedral continues to offer support and resources for worship and learning, including live and recorded services, through digital channels, including its website: http://chichestercathedral.org.uk

Chichester Cathedral is the Mother Church of the Diocese of Chichester, which almost exactly covers the counties of East and West Sussex and the City of Brighton and Hove, stretching for nearly a hundred miles along the south coast of England. Services take place daily and all are welcome.
