Young table tennis stars serve up aces

LIM TANG fired himself to victory and was crowned mixed singles champion as the Worthing and District Junior Table Tennis League season drew to a close on Saturday.

There were 25 entrants into the event and 14-year-old Tang beat 10-year-old Alex Fox in the final 11-4, 9-11, 6-11, 11-9, 11-5.

In the semi-final, Tang had overcome Tom Miles 8-11, 11-9, 11-9, 11-8. Fox had reached the final with a 11-9, 8-11, 11-8, 4-11, 11-6 victory over Michelle Hepworth.

The plate singles was won by James Bracey, who beat Danielle Baguley 8-11, 11-7, 12-14, 11-9, 11-8.

In the doubles, Jack Churcher and Hepworth secured victory, while Miles was the handicap winner.

The Division 1 winners were Sam Hall and Miles in their team, the Red Worms.

In Division 2, Jamie Kenard and Hal Darling were victorious in the team of the Homeless Pigs.

Jack Churcher and James Bracey performed much better than their team name suggested as The Shambles won Division 3.

Red Penguins, Ryan Baguley and Cameron McCullam, won Division 4.

Organiser Ray Forder presented the trophies, as well as certificates to all players.

The next youth league starts on Saturday, September 15, at Worthing Boys’ Club from 2pm to 4pm and lasts for 10 weeks.
