Wrestler Hayden wins silver medal

LITTLEHAMPTON and Rustington Freestyle Wrestling Club’s Hayden Fraser returned from the British Junior Championship with a silver medal recently.

The junior championships and the English Greco Roam Championships were both held in Croydon, with 208 young wrestlers competing in the junior event and 48 seniors in the Greco Roam.

The medal was an outstanding achievement for Fraser as, owing to a neck injury obtained playing rugby, he had not been able to fully train for several weeks.

His performance was noted and the national development squad coach intends to invite him to regular training sessions in London.

The tournament was also a credit to the Littlehampton and Rustington clubs as Mansoor Eslami and John Savage were asked to host and organise the championships. They made it an open tournament, attendance was high and the tournament a great success.

For the first time, a charge was made for visitors, which enabled the high costs to be covered and a small profit was made.

As a result, Littlehampton and Rustington have been asked to host and organise Southern England versus Wales early next year.
