Worthing ladies face tough clash in Sussex Cup hockey final

WORTHING Hockey Club ladies will be looking to add another piece of silverware to their trophy cabinet at the weekend when they face Horsham in the Sussex Ladies Cup final.

Having already won the Sussex League Premier Division, Worthing will be hoping they can secure the double when they travel to Lewes on Sunday.

It will be a stern test for Worthing facing Conference East side Horsham, who won the relegation play-off this season to remain in the league, meaning next year they will be playing four divisions higher than Worthing.

Worthing club president Bob Catlow admitted another cup would be a fitting seal to a superb season for the club.

He said: “We are very pleased to be in the final after what has been a great season for the girls.

“Not only did they win the league, they did it in style by not losing a game, so we’re pleased and now looking to spring a bit of a surprise on Horsham.

“They have a lot more experience, but whether they might take us lightly or turn up with serious heads on, who knows. But if we produce the hockey we know we can on the day, we could get the right result.”
