Worthing went ahead after just two minutes when fly-half Lorraine O’Connor shipped the ball out to centre Gabie Archer and she offloaded to Cass Larcombe, who sped through to touch down.

Straight from the restart, Worthing touched down again when Rebecca Lovenbury went over to make it 10-0 after only three minutes.

Worthing then defended in front of their own posts for a long period of play, before they went over for their third try when Holly Blackhurst burst through and O’Connor converted.

The hosts added a fourth try before half-time when Larcombe sprinted through to touch down her second try to make the score 22-0 at the break.

Worthing were denied a fifth try at the start of the second half when Blackhurst was adjudged to have a foot in touch but they soon regained possession and Saz Longhurst ran in to touch down.

Oakmedians then pinned Worthing on their try line and touched down to make the score 27-5.

Worthing refocused and Jess Lovenbury ran 50 metres to go over, before Sarah Wakeford and Archer also went over to make the final score 46-5.

Worthing head coach Andy Duckworth said: “This was the best rugby I’ve seen the team play this season and they thoroughly deserved the win.

“Scoring eight tries and three conversions against the team at the top of our league is a huge success and I am very proud of the team.”
