Worthing crew celebrate a successful season

WORTHING Rowing Club’s girls’ junior 16 quad team are celebrating being crowned the Coastal Amateur Rowing Association champions.

Emily Gurney, Elise Piggott, Jordan Simper and Gemma Stevens, who are all aged 16, from Worthing, achieved ten Regatta first places throughout the season. They also achieved silver medal success at the South Coast Rowing Championships at Swanage.

Throughout the Regatta season, the girls trained nearly every night, either taking the boats out on the sea or on the rowing machines in the clubhouse. They have also represented the south coast of England in the prestigous Inter-National Junior Regionals in Nottingham.

The girls attended the annual CARA dinner last week to receive their award.

They received their awards from double sculls gold Olympic medallist Sophie Hasking and also won the ladies novice fours award.
