Wasteful finishing costs Wickers

THE RETURN to fitness of Southwick player-managers, strikers, Dominic Shepherd and Andy Agutter cannot come soon enough after Wickers wasted several glorious chances on Saturday.

The fact Wickers had more than 20 efforts and Westfield scored with their one real chance explains why Southwick are struggling at the bottom. They have not been killing sides off.

Jay Roberts gave Wickers a third-minute lead with a cool side-foot finish from Grant Bean's pass but Southwick then missed chance after chance to get a second.

Captain Neil Harris headed John Donoghue's cross over from five yards, Ricky Timms' powerful shot from close-range was saved by Westfield keeper Dan Foster and Donoghue's drive was parried, before Westfield equalised on 18 minutes.

Wickers switched off at a corner and, from Alan Johnson's flag-kick, Dominic Clarke headed past veteran Southwick keeper Keith Cheal '” who, until the rain started in the second half, played with no gloves.
