Town win at Midhurst

STEYNING TOWN FC produced an excellent performance to win 4-2 at title-chasing Midhurst on Saturday.

After Midhurst had dominated the first 10 minutes, Steyning took the lead on 12 minutes and dominated from then on. Greg Hearne was found in space by Sean Hourigan and from Hearne's pass, Paul Schofield hit an unstoppable 20-yarder into the top corner.

Midhurst levelled eight minutes later after a generous penalty decision, with Ryan Pratt adjudged to have held back a Midhurst striker. Gary Norgate converted from the spot.

However, Steyning benefited themselves from a refeering decision on 27 minutes. Town were awarded a soft-looking free kick on the edge of the area, which Gareth Dutton curled home.

Just three minutes later, it was 3-1. Hourigan played through James Pargeter who lobbed Midhurst's keeper for his fourth goal in three games.

Greg Hearne then had a one-on-one chance saved in the first half before Town hit the woodwork three times in the second period. Hearne's lob hit the top of the bar and strike-partner Simon Price was twice denied by the post.

With six minutes left, Midhurst got a second through Paul Jefford to set up a nervy final few moments for Town.

It could have then been 3-3 but Town keeper Dave Angell came out to claim a cross with Norgate waiting to head home. From Angell's kick forward, Hearne won Town a corner, from which substitute Leo Trower rifled home the decider.
