Thunder rooted bottom after eighth league defeat

Worthing Thunder Basketball Club remain bottom of EBL Division 1 without a win as a third-quarter slump cost them dearly in a home defeat to Derby Trailblazers.

After matching the visitors point for point in the first half, the Trailblazers took control with a 10-0 run in the third to take the game away from Thunder in their 86-71 win.

Despite losing all eight league games this season, University of Chichester Thunder coach, Emmanuel Davis, who stood in for the absent Daniel Hildreth as coach, believes the team are capable of turning things around but have to work together if they are to get out of their current poor form.

He said: “We have a great team.

“The team dynamics are not there and coming out of a losing streak is tough and it will get harder, but skill and experience of other individuals are not going to fix this. It’s the motivation of the team that will get us out of this hole.

“This is a great team, one that fans can be proud of, they need to see that themselves, though, so they can get out of this mess, which they will.”

Hank Rivers led Thunder with a double-double of 19 points and 15 rebounds. Bud Johnston also grabbed a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds and Dominic Baker added 13 points.
