Thunder make new signing

WORTHING Thunder Basketball Club have signed 6ft 2in point guard Brendan Okoronkwo and he will make his debut at home to Tees Valley Mohawks on Saturday.

The 21-year-old has recently moved to the area after completing his university degree in Worcester, where he played for Worcester Wolves’ second team in EBL Division 3. He also played for the successful BUCS university team, and was a regular practice player with the BBL side.

Okoronkwo said: “I’m glad to be here in Worthing, it has a rich tradition of basketball and it’s good to be part of it.

“Worcester treated me so well, and they have given me so much. I really enjoyed my experience there and it’s good to be able to take my experiences and make myself an even better player and, hopefully, give the great Thunder fans some wins to talk about.”

Thunder coach Daniel Hildreth said: “I am delighted to finally have Brendan on board. He fits everything I am trying to do with the development of the team. As another young player, he has time to develop his game and prove himself at this level.”

Saturday’s EBL Division 1 game with Tees Valley tips-off at 7.30pm. Thunder then travel to unbeaten leaders Reading Rockets on Sunday (4pm).
