Sophia finishes fourth in T35 200m final

Cheered on by a full-house inside the Olympic Stadium, Warner, who competed for Worthing Harriers last year when she won two medals at the 1PC World Athletics Championships, got home in a personal-best time of 35.25sec. That bettered her previous personal-best of 35.59sec, which she ran earlier this year.

The race was won by Liu Ping, from China, in 32.72sec. Italy’s Oxana Corso was second in 33.68sec, with Canada’s Virginia McLachlan third in 34.31sec.

Warner, 38, was 10 years older than the next eldest finalist - world record holder, Ping, who is 28 in November.

This race was Warner’s first ever in the Paralympics as the T35 classification has not featured before.

Warner is also in two more events next week - the final of the T35/T38 4x100m relay on Tuesday at 9.32pm and the final of the T35 100m on Friday, September 7, at 7.24pm.
