Small upbeat ahead of Thunders’ tricky double-header

WORTHING Thunder Basketball Club are looking to keep their EBL winning streak alive this weekend - but will have to endure a tricky double-header to do so.

They first face Tees Valley Mohawks at the Worthing Leisure Centre on Saturday, and then travel up to Gillingham to face Medway Park Crusaders the following afternoon.

Thunder have caught the victory bug again with consecutive EBL triumphs over Derby Trailblazers and Westminster Warriors after a run of four straight defeats, but Canadian guard Courtney Small believes that the confidence was always there.

He said: “I’m always confident in our team’s ability to win games and the guys are too. We now have to show the league and our fans that we can win them how we are supposed to cause we are a much better team than what we are displaying right now.”

Mohawks are currently tied with Thunder on a won two, lost two record, but Worthing are above them in sixth place due to a better points difference. The teams have already met in a National Trophy encounter this season with Thunder coming out on top thanks to 105-98 victory aided by 38 points and 14 rebounds from Marcus Tullis.

While Sunday sees a trip to Kent to face Medway Park who have won one and lost two matches to start their league campaign.

Small knows that his side can’t take the games lightly, and must play hard to keep the winning streak going, and added: “I’m hungry to keep winning and I don’t like that we’ve been having a lot of close games, they’ve ended as wins, yes, but I want and the team want to be more convincing.”

Thunder’s home clash against Tees Valley tips off at 7.30pm, while Sunday’s game away to Medway Park tips off at 3pm.
