Saltdean sink Wickers

FOR THE second successive week, Southwick Football Club lost to a side struggling at the bottom of their division.

Last week, they were defeated 2-0 at Broadbridge Heath and on Saturday, Wickers lost 2-1 at bottom-of-the-table Saltdean. Saltdean have gained just 12 points this season and four of them have been against Southwick.

Wickers gifted Saltdean both of their goals with poor defensive play in the 14th and 19th minutes. In between, Stuart Maltman had briefly equalised with his first goal of the season. Player-boss Dominic Shepherd played the ball through and Maltman ran on to beat Saltdean's keeper.

After that, Shepherd missed a half-chance to equalise and Maltman twice missed excellent opportunities. Wickers also felt they might have had a penalty when Shepherd appeared to be brought down in the penalty area.
