Worthing’s win was much-needed – Buoy

WORTHING Raiders backs coach Nick Buoy said Saturday’s win at home to Chinnor was much-needed.

After five successive defeats in National 2 South, Buoy said: “It was much-needed but it was a great win.

“We’d been struggling with a lot of senior players out but we had Rob Smith back on Saturday, along with Matt McLean, Pete Austin and Owain Davies.

“Rob’s return brings a positive influence and a positive energy in training and before the game, so it’s really good to have him back.

“We changed tactics a little at half-time to play the conditions a bit more and our nine and ten, Sean O’Hagan and Kieran Leeming, bossed the game.

“The second half, with the conditions, was as good a performance as we have had.

“We made the right decisions at the right times and ground it out. To get 20 points without reply was really good as well.

“The atmosphere was brilliant afterwards and it was like the Raiders of old.”

“We’ll just take every game as it comes now and we’ll look to win as many games as possible.”

Matt Miles has left Raiders to join fellow National 2 South side Old Albanian.

Buoy praised Worthing’s former captain and thanked him for helping the club out this season by travelling down from London to play.

He said: “It’s a big blow as he was superb for us but he couldn’t keep travelling down from London to play and we appreciate him doing it a few times this season.

“He was brilliant for us and we wish him all the best.”
