The hosts fought back from 17-3 down at half-time to win 18-17 with a penalty a minute from time and Raiders head coach Kieron Dawson said: “Again, I thought the performance was great for a long time.

“We played very well but I keep going on about it and it’s our mental fragility.

“They scored an interception try when we were cruising and in control and panic mode just started again. Our effort levels were great but the interception try just changed our mindsets.

“If we’d won that first game against Old Elthamians, then we could be in a completely different position now but sport is a funny thing.

“We just need to finish the job in games and get over the line. I felt we were 20 to 30 points better than them, so it was a very disappointing loss.”

Raiders, who are now tenth in the National 2 South table, entertain fourth-placed Bishop’s Stortford on Saturday (3pm).

Alex Nielsen is back available but Scott Barlow and Jack Metters, who have both suffered ankle injuries in training in recent weeks, are out.
