After second-placed Worthing won 46-5 the previous week, two late tries helped Oakmeadians get revenge with a 32-19 victory.

In freezing rain, Worthing started with confidence and quickly gained control of the game. Prop Danielle Hand turned the ball over in contact and got the ball out wide. Winger Cass Larcombe made a great dash down the line and executed a perfect two-on-one round the Oakmeadians full-back, to set up centre Lauren Sandford to score. Lorraine O’Conner added the extras.

Oakmeadians responded well and levelled the score with a converted try of their own.

Worthing hit back straight away as Jo Baldwin got the ball out wide to Jo Wakeford, who ran 80 metres to go over, with O’Connor again converting.

As the weather deteriorated even further, Oakmeadians began to play to their strengths and kept the ball with their big pack. They touched down twice before half-time to lead 17-14 at the break.

Oakmeadians drove forward after Worthing had kicked off the second half and got their fourth try of the game to move 22-14 ahead.

Blackhurst took a quick tap penalty to go over as she caught the Oakmeadians defence unaware to bring the score back to 22-19.

However, Oakmeadians went over twice more in the last ten minutes to seal their win.

Worthing remain second in the table, with one league fixture remaining.
