Oliver aims for the top of his game

SHOREHAM College rugby star Oliver Davis Smith has had an “amazing” few weeks in his bid to play for his country.

The 15-year-old Year-10 student was selected in the Sussex county squad and was then named in the Harlequins Elite Squad a few days later.

He was put forward for the county trials by Shoreham College head of sport, Ollie Edlin, and he took part in three training sessions with the county selectors before being named in the squad.

A few days later, Davis Smith, who started playing for Brighton at the age of five, was selected to play for Harlequins’ under-15s against Saracens and has recently been moved into the Elite Squad, which is for players who have a realistic chance of becoming a professional at Harlequins.

Davis Smith said: “To be chosen by Sussex and then to be chosen for the Harlequins Elite squad in the space of a few weeks is just amazing.

“I have worked hard for this since the age of five and I am now one step closer to achieving my ultimate dream to one day play for England.”

Mr Edlin said: “I spotted Oliver’s skill on the rugby pitch years ago and watching him achieve his dreams is just fantastic.

“This boy has worked so hard to be where he is now, we are so proud of him here at the college and we are sure he has a great future in international rugby.”
