More than 500 runners from across the county flocked to Steyning to take part in the West Sussex Fun Run League event.

The race competitors began under the town clock and then set off onto countryside roads and footpaths to the top of the Downs before a descent back down to the finish.

Sam Reading added to Chichester Runners’ winning tally as he clinched victory in 5-07.

Steyning’s Henry Bird ran a great race and claimed a fifth-placed finish in 5-37.

Graham Morris, Steyning Athletic Club’s president, was delighted with how the event went and said: “It was a very good evening and was really well supported.

“We also had glorious sunshine, which is always a bonus.

“To have record numbers taking part just goes to show how popular the event was.”
