Raiders back in the fight after victory over Redruth

After losing at Chinnor the previous week, Dawson was a relieved man after the game as Redruth put Raiders under increasing pressure as the game was nearing its conclusion. The visitors did win a penalty in the closing stages, with the score 27-26, but did not go for the kick and Dawson said: “Sometimes you’ve got to get lucky.

“We’ve been unlucky in the past and we rode our luck today but it was a bizarre decision when they didn’t kick at goal to win the game.

“The lads got the hair-dryer treatment at half-time and I made it very clear that our season could hinge on the second-half performance.

“I really believe that if we had lost again to one of the top sides, it would have made it very difficult to get it back, so this win is a confidence boost and we’re back in the fight.

“We’ve made the season tough for ourselves after losing last week and, if we’d lost today, we’d have almost been out of it, so this is massive for us.”

Raiders remain fifth in the table and travel to third-placed Hartpury College on Saturday.
