In May last year, the first ever Planetbowls outdoor tournament took place at Pavilion – the Jack of Clubs event. Such was its success, it will be repeated in the first bank holiday of May this year.

Then, in September, there will be an invitation competition at Pavilion for the top 32 outdoor players throughout the summer.

Planetbowls is a popular indoor concept for bowlers, with several open singles events taking place across the country. The bowlers earn ranking points, before an indoor finals at the end of the season.

Pavilion chairman Malcolm Gilbey is delighted the event will return once again this year.

He said: “Worthing as a town lost the national competition to Leamington Spa and this sparked an interest from Pavilion’s members to try to set up a prestigious event.

“We teamed up with an insurance broker called Jack of Clubs and, alongside Planetbowls, we have now managed to get this competition up and running.

“Last year’s event was very successful and the main aim we have is to put Worthing back on the map in bowls.”

Planetbowls’ competi-tions attract some of the top bowlers in the UK and the directors of Pavilion are delighted that their venue has been chosen again for the prestigious competition.

Spectators will be welcome and entry is free.

Bowlers’ entry forms can be downloaded off the Planetbowls website www.planetbowls.com/outdoors.html
